We wonder if  transport can transcend localism?

There seem to be growing concerns that the move towards greater control over planning at the local level embodied in the Localism Bill will lead to ‘Smallism’ - smaller proposals, smaller ambition and smaller regeneration benefit. The Urban Optimist does not have any truck with these negative thoughts, and believes that a focus on smaller, targeted investment can bring greater regeneration benefit. However, this will require better leadership, better engagement, and more intelligent use of resources. At this festive time of year, the Urban Optimist hopes that your cup is equally half full – or, better still, overflowing with these qualities, as we will need them in abundance in the New Year!
